The Holiday Season has officially arrived!
At least, according to the atrium in The Time Warner Center, which is now all asplendor with their fabulous annual “Under The Stars”.
From their website:

|– Twelve 14-Foot Stars Feature a Color Display Choreographed to Holiday Music –
– Largest Specialty Crafted Display of Illuminated Color in the World –
– One of the Top Holiday Attractions in New York City –
I fell in love with these beautiful stars the first time I saw them. The atrium is amazing, and the view outside of Columbus Circle is amazing, and watching the changing colors of the stars in time with the holiday music is amazing, amazing, amazing!
“One of the most popular holiday attractions in the Big Apple, “Holiday Under the Stars” at Time Warner Center features twelve 14-foot stars that hang from the ceiling of the 150-foot Great Room. The stars are lit by the largest specialty crafted display of illuminated color mixing in the world. This must-see display is choreographed to traditional holiday music, providing a holiday atmosphere unlike any other in New York.”
The details of the installation, from the company that makes the lighting effects:
“Entitled Under the Stars, the installation comprised twelve 14-foot stars that were suspended from the Time Warner Center’s towering 75-foot atrium. The stars, consisting of aluminum frames with acrylic panels, were each illuminated by 20 Color Kinetics® ColorBlast® 12 systems – allowing them to perform choreographed color changes in accordance with original music adapted from The Nutcracker Suite. Several three-minute light shows were programmed to run every fifteen minutes between 4:00 – 10:00 pm. The individually controllable ColorBlast 12 systems allowed for multiple color changes within a single star, or synchronized effects across all of the stars.”
If you’re in the neighborhood, please do yourself a favor and stop in. Spend more than a few minutes. Relax! Enjoy! The light show with the holiday music is really like nothing you’ve seen before – unless you saw it last year! 😉
And it’s FREE to all!
WHEN: November 18, 2011 through January 3, 2012 beginning at 5:00pm to Midnight, each night.
WHERE: Time Warner Center / The Great Room
10 Columbus Circle at 59th Street; Subways: 1, A, B, C, D
(Funny, I was there last night 11/17, and enjoyed seeing the lights – while their press release says they begin tonight, 11/18. I guess what I saw was a sneak preview!)
Back at home, I noticed for the first time that our neighborhood deli has a new sign which puts on a light show of its own at night!
It was Holiday-Light-Show Kismet!
