Take A Ferry To Ikea

3 Aug

Do you remember the song by R.B. Greaves “Take A Letter Maria”?

Well, sing these new lyrics to the melody of the chorus:

*************************

Take a ferry to Ikea

It’s free on the weekend

Ain’t goin’ to Macys no more

This new find’s a godsend

*************************

I think it’s a hit!!

The ferry to Ikea, I mean.

Okay, so maybe it’s not a *new* find to about 7.9 million New Yorkers, but last weekend this New Yorker took her first (but def not last) FREE ferry ride to the Ikea in Brooklyn.

Yes, on the weekends, the ride is FREE.

Pier 11 is located in downtown Manhattan on South Street between Wall Street and Gouveneur Lane. You can take the #2 or #3 subway to Wall St. Walk down Wall St. 2 blocks to South Street. Turn right on South Street. Pier 11 will be on the left.

I took the #1 subway from midtown Manhattan to South Ferry, then walked about 10 minutes north to Pier 11.

The Water Taxi was there in moments – my timing was great!

We boarded, and soon departed Pier 11.

How totally cool is it to see the Brooklyn Bridge

Governors Island

sailboats and The Statue Of Liberty

while you dash to the store to pick up a new shower curtain?

You know how Hubby and I like our shower curtains.

And – by the way?? Instead of paying $25.00 for a ritzy new shower curtain, I paid…

$6!

The Brooklyn Bridge, Governors Island, The Statue Of Liberty – just icing on the cake that is New York City!

Now that I know the lay of the land (pardon me, but Ikea can be *pretty* confusing!) I will definitely be doing this again.

xoxo,

SAllan

And when you’re there, don’t forget to swing by the Red Hook ballfields for some cheap and awesome food cart delights!
